Come and discover the old mining town of Santa Eulalia with this three-hour tour from Chihuahua. Santa Eulalia is one of Mexico’s oldest towns. For many years the town’s prosperity depended on the nearby silver mine and in this fascinating tour you will have the opportunity to visit the old mine itself, explore the town’s historical monuments and colourful streets and enjoy panoramic vistas of the city of Chihuahua far below.
Sleepy Santa Eulalia is just 20km to the south of Chihuahua and was for many years a thriving, prosperous mining settlement. The origins of this historic town date back to 1652 when it was founded by Spaniard Diego del Castillo. However it was the discovery of a rich silver mine by a local Indian in 1709 that really put the place on the map.
On arriving at Santa Eulalia, head straight for the old silver mine. Learn all about the fascinating history of the town and the mine, and observe many different kinds of calcites and other semi-precious stones. After a couple of hours exploring the mine and its mysteries we’ll go to a nearby observation deck where you can enjoy stunning panoramic vistas down over the city of Chihuahua.
You will also have some free time to explore Santa Eulalia’s colourful streets, sunny plazas and historical buildings. Do some shopping for souvenirs or relax over a cool drink as you enjoy the town’s laid back lifestyle before boarding the tour bus for the drive back to Chihuahua.
